But exemplifying the roller-coaster nature of his public career, Trump is also soon poised for a massive financial windfall. The case, related to payment to an adult film star ahead of the 2016 election, could lead to Trump being a convicted felon by November’s election. His legal team said last week the bond amount was a “practical impossibility” for Trump, whose wealth is tied up in skyscrapers and golf resorts. Trump’s legal team has also said he shouldn’t be required to sell assets to meet the deadline since doing so would create a fire sale devastating to his business. The White House has done its best not to comment on the case, to avoid giving Trump more political ammunition.

As the creative force behind the look of the wildly popular 1970s London fashion store Big Biba, Thomas knows a thing or two about engineering excitement. “An act of bravery”Interior designer Thomas had already designed Hulanicki and Fitz-Simon’s home and the third Biba store in 1968 before being approached about the landmark seven-level store. “Fitz offered me two floors (of Big Biba) but I wanted it all,” he recalled of his initial involvement. Tim WhiteWhile Wintour’s shopgirl life was short-lived, Big Biba’s staff were a vital component of the experience remembered Thomas. In 1969, the independent company sold a majority of its shares to another British fashion retailer Dorothy Perkins which, in August 1973 (a month before Big Biba opened), was then bought by a property development company called British Land.

CNN —To immerse yourself in the pages of new book “Candy, Andy & The Bearandas” is to delve into a surreal world that riffs on the peculiar while invoking the familiar. Warner Bros. Discovery announced Thursday that CNN Max will be added to its Max streaming service on Sept. 27, and will serve as a 24/7 live news hub. Discovery relaunched its flagship streaming service HBO Max as Max, combining content from Warner Bros. and Discovery+ under one roof. As for including sports on Max, Warner Bros. Discovery is targeting the start of MLB playoffs this fall to introduce sports on the streaming app, CNBC previously reported.

New York CNN —CNN is heading to the Max streaming platform. Under previous leadership, CNN launched the standalone streaming service CNN+, which former executives touted as one of the most important moves in the network’s four-decade history. Warner Bros. CNN Max represents a path forward into the future, while also being more aligned with Warner Bros. Discovery’s vision. Discovery said that CNN Max will be available across all its various subscription packages, including its advertiser-supported plans.

REUTERS/Alyssa Pointer/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsAug 24 (Reuters) - Warner Bros Discovery (WBD.O) said on Thursday it was adding a new offering to its Max streaming platform, a round-the-clock news service called CNN Max, in the United States on Sept. 27. CNN Max will leverage the news network's global reporting resources, and will also offer new original programs, such as "CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta, Rahel Solomon, Amara Walker and Fredricka Whitfield," Warner Bros Discovery said in a statement. It will function like a channel within the Max streaming platform. CNN Max will seek to capitalize on the immediacy of breaking news and analysis, differentiating CNN Max from the short-lived CNN+ streaming service, which launched in March 2022 and featured lifestyle programs. CNN's parent, Warner Bros Discovery, has been working to increase how much time subscribers spend on its Max streaming service, augmenting its HBO scripted series with Discovery's reality shows to keep viewers watching.

Former Georgia Lt. Gov Geoff Duncan, a Republican, said Saturday on CNN that he has been told to appear Tuesday before a Fulton County grand jury to testify about the efforts by Trump and his allies. Independent journalist George Chidi posted on social media later Saturday that he’d been told to appear before the grand jury on Tuesday too. The witnesses Willis has subpoenaed to testify when she presents her case include Duncan, Chidi and former Georgia state Sen. Jen Jordan, a Democrat. Georgia law is unusual in that special purpose grand juries – which have broad investigative powers – are not permitted to issue indictments. When the subpoenaed witnesses appear before the regular grand jury, those grand jurors will hear the witnesses’ testimony for the first time with a narrower purpose at hand: to approve or reject indictments.

Ask the families of the victims of last year’s racist massacre in Buffalo what they want and one goal comes up again and again. “To hold anybody and everybody, in anything and everything, that had a part in what happened to my mother and the other nine, what was done in Buffalo, to hold them accountable,” said Garnell W. Whitfield Jr., whose mother, Ruth, was one of 10 people — all of them Black — who were killed. That longing for accountability has resulted in two new civil lawsuits filed by the Buffalo families, the most recent attempt to hold social media companies responsible when men steeped in violent ideologies on those platforms open fire. But even as such massacres continue, seemingly unabated, lawsuit after lawsuit against tech giants has thus far failed to award victims and their families in court. Indeed, the Buffalo suits will face significant challenges, experts in digital law say, with some blunt predictions as to their likelihood for success.

A veteran and former police officer described the haunting scenes he found when he arrived at the outlet mall in Allen, Texas, Saturday. The aftermath of the mass shooting there was “horrific,” Steven Spainhouer told CNN’s Fredricka Whitfield on Sunday. Spainhouer said he was planning to meet his son, who works at the H&M store at the outlet mall, for lunch. Spainhouer drove to the outlet mall and said when he showed up, he saw many people fleeing the scene and counted seven bodies on the ground. Spainhouer added that both he and his son will receive counseling for what they witnessed Saturday.
CNN —The US Coast Guard is suspending its search for three missing Americans last heard from on April 4 near Mazatlán, Mexico, according to a Coast Guard news release. The search was suspended “pending further developments” after Mexican Navy and US Coast Guard responders “conducted 281 cumulative search hours covering approximately 200,057 square nautical miles” with no sign of the missing vessel or passengers, the release said. Kerry O’Brien, Frank O’Brien and William Gross are all “experienced sailors,” according to an earlier joint statement from their families. “An exhaustive search was conducted by our international search and rescue partner, Mexico, with the U.S. Coast Guard and Canada providing additional search assets,” said Commander Gregory Higgins, command center chief of Coast Guard District 11. Winds potentially over 30 knots and seas 15 to 20, maybe more, feet at the time of their voyage,” Higgins told CNN’s Fredricka Whitfield on Saturday.
CNN is still shifting its late night lineup, and Laura Coates will no longer anchor solo at 11 p.m.Coates is said to be "stunned" and "disappointed" by losing the opportunity. On paper, Coates would seem like the ideal figure to fill the network's 11 p.m. slot, particularly as CNN already shared a press release about her appointment to the role in January. CNN and news industry insiders who commented for this story spoke on the condition of anonymity because they're not authorized to speak to the press. "They pulled her off to save money," said one person familiar with internal conversations at CNN. The network's only Black solo anchors now are Abby Phillip, who helms the high-profile "Inside Politics Sunday," and Fredricka Whitfield, who also hosts a weekend show.
Two Indianapolis police officers were indicted on manslaughter charges on Thursday in the death of Herman Whitfield III, a Black man who died in April 2022 after he was restrained by the police when his parents called 911 because he was having a mental health crisis. In addition to involuntary manslaughter, the officers, Adam Ahmad, 31, and Steven Sanchez, 34, also face felony charges of reckless homicide and battery and an additional misdemeanor count of battery. Officer Sanchez faces a second count of involuntary manslaughter for using a Taser, according to the indictment. The officers could face more than 20 years in prison if convicted on all counts. Mr. Whitfield’s death followed a series of episodes in which Black men were killed in police custody — encounters that have prompted national protests.
Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) is an oil stock worth owning on its own merits. But a fresh report that Exxon Mobil (XOM) could acquire the Club holding would likely unlock even more value. "That's not to say if Exxon Mobil offered a 25% premium, it wouldn't be done. If you saw a 25% premium, I think that would bring them to the table because, let's be realistic, every independent wants to be acquired by Exxon Mobil." Pioneer's attractiveness stems in large part from its quality acreage and low oil price breakevens, at roughly $39 per barrel.
A former Trump Organization executive thinks Donald Trump is "enjoying" fighting off his legal woes. Barbara Res says Trump is likely trying to "make the most of" his multiple legal battles. I don't think he's fearing jail or anything like that," said Barbara Res, a former Trump Organization executive, told CNN's Fredricka Whitfield on Sunday. Res started working for the Trump Organization in 1980 and became an executive vice president at the company before she quit in 1998. Res left the Trump Organization in 1998.
Thirteen relatives of victims spoke during the hearing including Simone Crawley, who called Gendron, 19, a "cowardly racist." The sentence, which was expected because the state does not employ the death penalty, was given by Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan. Erie County District Attorney John Flynn and Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown called Gendron's apology too little and too late. "I anticipate what he said today was to save his life in federal court," Flynn said after the hearing. His lawyers have sought a plea deal relating to these in an effort to avoid a possible death sentence.
Former Nixon attorney John Dean expects the Jan. 6 committee to recommend charges against Trump. Dean argues Trump's presidential bid "in a court of law should make no difference." Dean and Whitfield also compared Trump and former President Richard Nixon, who resigned after his involvement in Watergate began to be investigated. "The Senate Watergate committee didn't venture this far when they were investigating Nixon," Dean, who was appointed by Nixon to head the Watergate scandal investigation in 1972, said. But unlike Nixon, who was pardoned after the Watergate scandal led to his resignation, Trump has already announced his 2024 presidential bid.

Ahead of the Senate runoff election, Voto Latino identified 175,000 Latinos in Georgia who are young, low-propensity voters who participated in the last election.
CNN —Fans of the TV blockbuster “Yellowstone” are in for a treat after Paramount + released a preview of the upcoming prequel “1923” – starring Harrison Ford and Oscar-winner Helen Mirren. The much-anticipated “1923” follows on the success of another “Yellowstone” spinoff – “1883” – which stars real-life spouses Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, along with Sam Elliott. It tells the story of how the family came to own Yellowstone ranch. Speaking with an Irish accent, Mirren, 77 – who won an Academy Award in 2006 for her role in “The Queen” – looks set to be a formidable opponent for those trying to take over her family’s land. In one scene in the trailer, she warns: “Men kill quick with a bullet or a noose.
